This Friday, Prince William marries Kate Middleton. There has been an enormous media frenzy over this, with many historians arguing that the couple has the burden of restoring the monarchy. People have been wondering if Kate will replace Diana as the "people's princess," accentuated by the fact that he gave her Diana's engagement ring. It's an interesting argument. Unlike Diana, Kate seems to have been more exposed to some of the machinations of the media and of the monarchy prior to the marriage. Regardless, this marriage is one of those major events that people will be speaking about for years.
Another factor no one is yet discussing includes whether they will receive new titles and what they will be. Also, when Elizabeth dies, more history will be made. Technically, Charles is next in line but he is divorced and remarried, which makes him ineligible by old standards. It is assumed that he will pass the honor to William, which is also groundbreaking.
In the meantime, my money is on Harry. He seems the most "real," flawed and all. He also invited all the members of his military unit to the wedding, which makes me like him even more. :)

I was unable to access the link although I know quite a bit about the wedding considering it happened only a few years ago. I think that people compare Kate and Diana still today and I agree that Harry seems the most relatable to the common person seeing as how his flaws are visible. I think the whole situation is funny for Americans to watch considering the monarchy used to own us on top of the fact that it hardly has any power except monetarily. On the bright side, they are very charitable. Anyways, I believe William and Kate will take the throne next and do as good a job as they can with little power.
ReplyDeletehonestly, this seems irrelevant. obviously because it is old. but also, i criticize those in America who praise british royalty. british royalty isnt a thing anymore, and it is the reason we became our own country. i despise the idea of getting into their lives. they are really just regular people now. but whatever, people will love them no matter what.
ReplyDeleteJoe has a good idea here, who cares? The British heirarchy is flawed at this day in age. Royalty aren't in control they are just figureheads that have no say in how the country is ran. They are irrelevant and Harry, Diana, William and Kate just isn't what people should be concerning themselves with.
